Storytelling Programs for Adults

Time and time again, Sally finds that adult audiences are delighted with the surprise of enjoying an engaging storytelling program.  This list of adult performances ranges from wisdom to historical to personal stories, each of which touches the core of our common human experiences.

  • Keeping Hinkle, “Hinkle” — When Butler University’s Hinkle Fieldhouse underwent its renovation in 2014, the guiding mantra was “Keep Hinkle Hinkle.” This exciting story takes listeners through a well of memories stored in the rafters, bleachers, hoops, and bowels of the great Basketball cathedral to find out why everyone insisted on keeping Hinkle…Hinkle. (60-minutes)

  • When Love and Hatred Cannot Affect Us — A collection of short, beautiful wisdom folk tales and historical stories from around the world, linked together by a common theme of managing the bitter and the sweet that ebb and flow through our lives. (45-60 minutes)
  • Out of the Doghouse, Into the Kennel — A humorous  story about the trials and tribulations of raising three poodles, all of whom gave Sally and her family a run for their money! (45 minutes)
  • Good Mothers Lie  — A humorous story of a mother (Sally) who tells two travel stories from her own life in an effort to assure her young, anxious son that he and his dog will be safe during times of travel.  However, Sally discovers that the stories are failing to offer much comfort. A kernel of parental insight comes when she recalls her own father’s methods of offering her comfort as a child. (45 minutes)

  •  The Sibling Staircase — A humorous story about a youngest child’s quest to find her place in life among her two older, talented sisters.  The story weaves Sally’s quest with Greek myths and folk tales for a delightful and tender adventure into sibling rivalry.   (45 minutes)

  • The Charm, the Harm, and the Daring of Dillinger — A suspense-filled story tracing the life of a run-of-the-mill boy who inadvertently received a world class criminal education that propelled him into a criminal career.  In following John Dillinger from boredom to desperation to sheer audacity, the story depicts the infamous trickster who out-witted law enforcement in a 14-month wild chase in and around the state of Indiana. (60 minutes)

  • For the Love of May — A love story about a highly influential educator, suffragist, women’s right advocate, and peace advocate in Indiana during the turn of the century.  In death and beyond, May Wright Sewall’s love for her husband Theodore sustained her ahead-of-her-time and often controversial quest to live an “ideal life of noble ambition.”  (40 minutes)
